Millions of devices use it to interconnect. Thousands of companies use it for their enterprise instant messaging. Facebook use it for Facebook Chat integration. Google use it for their Google Cloud Messaging. In essence, XMPP belongs to the vibrant community that develops and cares for it. There is also an active community of open-source and commercial developers who produce a wide variety of XMPP-based software. It is a protocol (a set of standards) that the XMPP Standards Foundation maintains. You can’t buy it or pay for a licence to use it.
